The Aesthetics
The JPC’s aesthetics are unmistakable. And its purpose is equally unmistakable to every young athlete who crosses the ropes. The purples, golds, reds, blacks, greens, yellows, blues and whites stand out in a HUGE way. They scare away many… a’ hem, older golfers. But the colorful equipment is inviting to the younger athlete.
The JPC has a bright red, yellow, blue and green exercise wall that’s 8 feet tall, 10 feet long and more than a foot thick – sturdy enough to withstand the most hardy medicine ball toss. A unique footprint, color-coded jumping surface fronts the exercise wall.
Three sets of monkey bars allow the young athletes to gain strength, dexterity and confidence all while smiling and just trying to do “only the reds.” The JPC putting green, like everything else at the JPC, is specially designed with the young athlete in mind. One side is nice and smooth and has a slight gradient. The other side has foot-tall slopes – a place for tennis balls and physioballs and SNAG Golf Putters.
To get the center we see today, The Grand’s in-house construction crew moved more than a dozen trees and thousands of pounds of earth. They built a cart path from one side and a walking trail on the other. They built a bathroom and a storage room. Where there was no power, The Grand ran cables to install it. Fences and shrubbery provide a safety a barrier for wayward medicine balls, tennis balls, Frisbees and the occasional flying polo stick.
